Dutch-German transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT has signed early works agreements with Hitachi Energy Ltd and Petrofac Ltd (LON:PFC) for the first two Dutch offshore converter stations for TenneT’s offshore wind grid expansion.
TenneT seeks to deliver new offshore grid connection systems in the Dutch and German North Sea under its 2GW programme, using new standardised 2-GW connections.
Commenting on the agreement with with Hitachi Energy and Petrofac in the Netehrlans, Marco Kuijpers, Director Offshore at TenneT, said: “With this first agreement we reserve production capacity for platforms and HVDC equipment and initiate the detailed engineering process to secure the time schedule for the 2GW projects IJmuiden Ver Alpha (2029) and Nederwiek 1 (2030).”
“We expect to award the full framework contracts for the HVDC Platform scope of all the 2030 Road Map projects in the first quarter of 2023, also with the other envisaged partners,” added Kuijpers.
Hitachi Energy and Petrofac agreed a collaboration in June 2022.
In May 2022, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands pledged to reach at least 65 GW of offshore wind capacity by the end of the decade. TenneT accounts for 40 GW of this, split equally between the German and Dutch parts of the North Sea. Currently, TenneT has connection capacity of around 7.2 GW in the German North Sea and around 2.8 GW in the Dutch North Sea.
Meanwhile, this week fellow German transmission system operator Amprion GmbH awarded a large contract to Siemens Energy and Dragados Offshore for the construction of converter stations for two 2-GW offshore wind links.
