Belgian mechanical engineering specialist John Cockerill on Friday reported achieving a 33% market share of electrolyser shipments in 2021 during which year the company also recorded sales of 215 MW.
In a statement, John Cockerill said it experienced a three-fold increase of its hydrogen revenues in 2021 compared to 2020.
The company noted that it delivered 22 stacks of 5 MW each to form a 110-MW electrolyser facility for a solar power-based hydrogen project in northwest China developed by Baofeng Energy. It also supplied a 6-MW electrolyser to power hydrogen-powered buses at the Beijing Olympic Games.
During the 12-month period, John Cockerill completed the buyout of its previously 56%-owned Chinese joint venture called Cockerill Jingli Hydrogen and created a new one in India with Hyderabad-based renewable energy producer Greenko Group.
Meanwhile, the company is progressing the development of its first European Gigafactory for electrolysers and hydrogen equipment as planned and expects the project to be completed next year. The plan is to manufacture electrolyser components in Aspach-Michelbach, France, and assemble stacks in Seraing, Belgium.
