Samsung C&T joins Infinite Green in 10-MW Aussie H2 project

Australia’s Infinite Green Energy will be partnering with a unit of South Korea’s Samsung C&T Corp’s (KRX: 028260) in the development and construction of the 10-MW MEG HP1 green hydrogen project in Western Australia.

The Peth-based company said last week it has signed a binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its South Korean partner that sets the key terms of their collaboration.

MEG HP1 envisages the installation of an electrolyser with battery storage near Northam, about 100 km northwest of Perth, to produce up to four tonnes of green hydrogen daily. The process will be powered by the 11-MW Northam solar park, which Infinite Green acquired earlier in February.

The solar-powered green hydrogen production facility is expected to be switched on in early 2024. Most of its output is planned to be used in heavy transport, while some of it will be supplied to waste management companies for back-to-base refuse collection vehicles. MOUs are already in place and binding contracts are being negotiated, according to the statement.

When it bought the Northam solar park, Infinite Green said the plant could be expanded to 18 MW so as to potentially double the hydrogen production capacity.
