Bucharest-listed wine maker Purcari Wineries Group [BSE:WINE] said on Wednesday it has installed a 240 MWh photovoltaic system on the rooftop of its Chateau Purcari production site in Moldova.
The photovoltaic system covers an area of 1,025 sq m and will cover 15% of the winery’s electricity consumption, the company said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The investment brings the group closer to its ambition of a more sustainable and CO2 neutral production, it said.
"We remain committed to achieving the long-term goal of environmental sustainability in our activity, and the investment in a Solar Panel System is a certain sign of our allegiance in doing so," Purcari Wineries COO Eugen Comendant said.
The group said it will continue to increase its investments in sustainability, aiming to cover up to 80% of its energy consumption from solar parks.
Purcari Wineries manages over 1,350 hectares of vineyards and operates four production platforms in Romania and Moldova. The company is the leader in the premium wine segment in Romania, with a 30% segment share, and the largest wine exporter from Moldova, delivering its produce to over 40 countries.
Purcari's shares were trading 0.11% lower at 9.21 lei ($1.9/ 1.87 euro) on the Bucharest Stock Exchange as at 1307CET on Wednesday.
