Molson Coors inks wind PPA to run Texas brewery on 100% renewables

Multinational beer and drinks producer Molson Coors Beverage Company (NYSE:TAP) has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDF Energy Services to procure wind energy for its brewery in Forth Worth, Texas.

The facility, Molson Coors’ fifth-largest brewery, is running on 100% renewable power as of this month, the beer maker said in a blog post on Friday.

The Forth Worth brewery is served electricity from the King Creek wind farm in north-central Texas. The wind farm complex is made up of the 184-MW King Creek 1 and the 209-MW King Creek 2, both commissioned in 2022. EDF Renewables handled their development.

Forth Worth is Molson Coors’ first brewery in North America to be fully powered by renewables. The facility is also equipped with an on-site anaerobic waste pretreatment system, which produces biogas for the brewery’s steam boilers.

“The move to renewable electricity is expected to substantially reduce the brewery’s net emissions,” said Rachel Schneider, Molson Coors’ vice president of sustainability.

Efforts in this direction will enable the company to meet is sustainability targets, which include slashing direct emissions by half by 2025 and reaching net zero emissions by 2050.
