Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has landed a deal to supply turbines for the first 540-MW phase of an 846-MW wind project in Brazil owned by power utility Engie Brasil Energia SA (BVMF:EGIE3).
Under the agreement, the Danish manufacturer will deliver 120 units of its V150-4.5 MW turbines, covering the initial phase of the Serra de Assuarua wind project in Bahia state, considered to be the largest of its kind in Latin America.
Vestas said that the agreement includes an option for Engie to buy the additional 68 wind turbines for Serra de Assurua's full capacity by the end of 2022.
In addition to equipment delivery, installation, operation and maintenance, the manufacturer will also service the machines under a 25-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) deal.
Wind turbine delivery as well as the commercial operation of Serra de Assurua is set to begin gradually in the second half of 2024.
Vestas noted that with this new contract it has surpassed 8 GW of orders in Brazil for its 4-MW platform wind turbines since 2018.
