Avangrid signs USD-16m host community deal for Park City Wind

Avangrid Renewables LLC, a unit of Avangrid Inc (NYSE:AGR), has signed a host community agreement with the Town of Barnstable in relation to its 800-MW Park City Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.

Under the terms of the deal, the company will pay the town USD 16 million (EUR 15m) as a host community fee and will limit construction at the beach and along roadways to the non-summer months. Avangrid Renewables has also pledged to take extra measures to protect groundwater in Barnstable.

On the other hand, the town will support electric transmission cables from the offshore wind farm to make an underground landfall at Craigville Beach. The cables will run underground along town roads to a new substation.

The agreement will be filed with the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB). It is the second offshore wind benefits package signed by the Town of Barnstable following the 2018 deal for Vineyard Wind 1, jointly owned by Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).

Park City Wind is currently undergoing the federal and state permitting process, as well as consultations with tribal and local agencies. The project, which was awarded a contract with Connecticut in 2019, is expected to be completed in 2026.
