Axpo sheds 74.5-MW French wind bundle to Encavis fund

Swiss renewables producer and marketer Axpo Holding AG on Wednesday said it has sold 74.5 MW of wind farms in France to Germany’s Encavis Asset Management AG.

The buyer, owned by the asset management arm of German renewables operator Encavis AG (ETR:CAP), will add the assets to the portfolio of its special investment fund Encavis Infrastructure Fund II. Financial details about the deal were not provided.

The capacity included in the transaction comes from five newly-installed wind parks that were previously owned by Axpo's subsidiary Volkswind GmbH. The plants are located in the regions of Hauts-de-France, Nouvelle Aquitaine and Bourgogne-Franche-Comte. Namely, these are the Ablaincourt (14.4 MW), Brillac (12 MW), La Brousse and Bagnizeau (22.11 MW), Leigne-les-Bois (14.0MW) and Yrouerre (12.0 MW).

With a total of 29 turbines, the wind farms were brought online between January and June 2021. They are expected to have a combined average annual output of about 175,000 MWh, or enough to cover the electricity demand of 37,000 homes.

"The construction and subsequent sale of wind farms is an important pillar of our strategy to increase added value from our renewable energies business,” said Axpo head of Renewables Christoph Sutter.
