Enel installs 1st module at 187-MW Colombian solar plant

Renewables developer Enel Green Power Colombia, part of Italian utility group Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL), has installed the first photovoltaic (PV) panel at its 187-MW direct current (DC) La Loma solar farm.

Located on a 437-hectare (1,079.8 acres) site in the department of Cesar, the solar park will consist of more than 400,000 bifacial panels mounted on trackers.

Currently, La Loma is the largest solar PV farm under construction in Colombia, Enel said. The company estimates it will complete mounting all the PV modules within the first four months of 2022, with commissioning set to occur in the second half of the same year.

Once up and running, the solar park should be able to generate over 420 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual needs of approximately 370,000 customers, Enel Green Power's head of Business Development in Colombia, Adrian Dugulan, noted.

Last month, Enel announced the addition of beekeeping hives at La Loma, thus entering the agrivoltaic industry.
