Ormat Technologies Inc (NYSE:ORA) has inked a deal with Peninsula Clean Energy to sell the community choice aggregator (CCA) electricity from a 26-MW geothermal power plant in California’s Imperial Valley.
The parties have signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the entire output of Ormat’s Heber 2 geothermal facility, the power producer said on Thursday. The deal will come into force on January 1, 2023.
The power off-take deal was awarded after a request for bids (RFB) issued by Ormat in July last year. The solicitation was launched in response to a requirement for California load serving entities to procure 11.5 GW of new capacity, including 1 GW of weather invariant, zero-emission power with an 80% capacity factor, between 2023 and 2026.
The Heber water-cooled, binary geothermal plant is currently being repowered and is planned to go online in January 2023. Following the repowering, the facility's initial capacity of 12 MW will be increased to 26 MW.
Peninsula Clean Energy is the electricity provider of California’s San Mateo County and the City of Los Banos. The company is aiming to source 100% of the power it supplies from renewables by 2025.
