Origin inks bundled PPA for 530-MW wind park in Victoria

Australian electricity and natural gas company Origin Energy Ltd (ASX:ORG) has signed a bundled power off-take contract for electricity from the 530-MW Stockyard Hill wind farm in Victoria.

The deal consists of a series of long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with seven customers – Melbourne Airport, Ausgrid, Nexus Hospitals, Southern Cross Station, NSW Ports, Transurban’s CityLink (Sydney) and Westlink M7 (Melbourne). Together, they will procure 132 GWh of the wind farm’s output per year, Origin said on Thursday.

The term of the power supply contracts ranges between six to nine years, out to December 2030.

Origin Energy is the original developer of the Stockyard Hill project but in 2017 sold it to Goldwind Australia and then agreed to buy the power and related Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from the project.

The new PPAs were signed through Origin’s newly created Origin Zero business.

Located 35 km (27.1 miles) west of Ballarat city in the Central Highlands of Victoria, the 149-turbine Stockyard Hill complex is the biggest wind farm in Australia to date. While construction was finalised in 2020, it is still not operating at full capacity due to commissioning delays.
