Portugal publishes full list of solar auction winners

Portugal’s Directorate-General of Energy and Geology (DGEG) published on Wednesday the list of winning bids in the country's solar auction held in July, confirming earlier reports that Spain’s Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) and French independent power producer Akuo Energy SAS walked away as the biggest winners.

The widely reported lowest price bid for solar power of EUR 14.76/MWh (USD 16.54/MWh) was submitted by Akuo’s Portuguese vehicle Akuo Rrenovaveis Portugal Lda. The French company was awarded 370 MW of solar capacity for its three projects. Iberdrola, on the other hand, secured 149 MW from seven projects.

A total of 25 projects across 24 lots were allocated 1,150 MW of nominal power, according to the final tally.

UK-based renewables developer Aura Power Developments Ltd offered the highest price in the tender, EUR 31.16 per MWh for its 18-MW project.

In all, the tender attracted 64 bidders, of which 13 won contracts at an average price of EUR 20/MWh.Spain’s Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) managed to secure the largest number of lots, while French renewables developer Akuo Energy SAS won the most capacity at 370 MW.

Of the total awarded capacity, projects for 862 MW will sell power under the guaranteed remuneration regime, whereas the remaining 288 MW will receive payments at a variable tariff.
