US cleantech integrator Ameresco Inc (NYSE:AMRC) will install 32 MW of additional solar panels at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL) in New Jersey as part of the second phase of a USD-140-million (EUR 139.9m) project.
The company said in a statement on Thursday it is continuing an existing partnership with the military base under which it is providing mission-critical energy infrastructure updates. The second-phase project is valued at USD 92 million and adds to an initial USD 48 million task order from 2021.
The new job includes the implementation of additional energy conservation measures (ECMs) focused not only on on-site solar power generation but also on energy efficiency, battery storage and a new microgrid controls system.
More specifically, Ameresco will deploy the aforementioned 32 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels along with a 2-MW/4-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Together with backup generation assets, they will be integrated into the new microgrid. The project will also see Ameresco add more than 90,000 LED fixture retrofits, wireless streetlighting controls and advanced interior lighting controls.
Construction work on Phase 2 is planned to start shortly and be finalised in early 2025. The new ECMs are designed to generate more than USD 4.7 million in annual energy savings for the joint base.
