(ADPnews) - May 4, 2011 - Eletrosul, a subsidiary of Brazil's state-owned power holding company Eletrobras (SAO:ELET6), yesterday presented its Megawatt Solar project during a solar energy generation seminar in Berlin.
The project relates to the installation of the largest solar energy generation plant in the country on the roof of the company's headquarters and car park in Florianopolis, southern Santa Catarina state. It will be the first to provide one megawatt peak (Mwp), or the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 570 homes.
Eletrosul's project opened a discussion about the use of Brazilian stadiums' roofs, venues of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, as sites for the installation of photovoltaic modules for solar energy generation.
The projects of the Governador Magalhaes Pinto stadium, or Mineirao, in Belo Horizonte, southeastern Minas Gerais state, and the Pituacu stadium, in Salvador, northeastern Bahia state, were also presented.
