Goldwind starts construction of offshore wind jack-up

Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology (SHE:002202) said on Friday it has started construction of a 1,600-tonne offshore wind installation vessel capable of deploying turbines of over 20 MW in water depths of up to 70 meters.

The jack-up will have the largest variable load capacity and turbine storage capacity in China and will accelerate offshore wind development, the company added.

Goldwind last week held a ceremony to mark the start of construction in Nantong, Jiangsu Province together with representatives of Zhongtian Technology Group and China Merchants Group, local officials, as well as customer representatives from Three Gorges Group, State Power Investment Corporation and CGN New Energy.

The CNY-1.5-billion (USD 219m/EUR 220m) ship is due to be put into operation in August 2023.

Goldwind said the Chinese offshore wind market is expected to grow fast, reaching an estimated 12 GW-17 GW of annual installations by 2025.
