DP Energy to survey seabed for 1-GW Irish floating wind project

Irish renewables developer DP Energy today said it will undertake a geophysical survey at its proposed 1-GW Ealga Marine Energy Park, a floating offshore wind project off the coasts of Cork and Waterford.

The five-day survey will start on September 8 and will span about 900 sq km (348 sq miles). It will be conducted by Hydrographic Surveys of Crosshaven using the Commissioners of Irish Lights’ vessel ILV Granuaile.

This survey will provide information about the make-up of the seabed at different depths to inform the project design, as well as help prepare specifications for further geophysical and geotechnical surveys.

DP Energy has partnered on the development of the project with Spanish utility group Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE). The wind park could go online by 2030, supporting Ireland’s Climate Action Plan goal of 7 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030.

In July, the developers announced the publishing of a scoping report in relation to the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) for the project.
