Ecuador's tender for wind, solar projects attracts intl bidders

The Ecuadorian ministry of energy and non-renewable natural resources said on Tuesday that 22 companies from ten countries expressed interest in participating in the public selection process for the construction of the 200-MW El Aromo solar park and the Villonaco II and III wind farms of 110 MW in total.

Companies from Italy, France, Spain, the UK, Canada, China, the US, Portugal, Colombia and Germany submitted documents for pre-qualification in the first stage that ended on October 28.

A total of 19 companies showed interest in the El Aromo photovoltaic (PV) project located in the province of Manabi, the ministry said. The Villonaco II and III wind farms, as one project in Loja province, drew the attention of 15 companies. A dozen companies applied for both projects.

The pre-qualification stage will conclude on November 13, 2019, while the results of the whole process will be known next year on April 15.

The ministry expects the construction of the two projects to bring an investment of USD 400 million (EUR 359.8m),

Energy minister Carlos Perez said his ministry has a portfolio of 39 power generation projects, of which 21 represent non-conventional renewables.
