Encavis buys 37.6-MW solar carport in Netherlands

German solar and wind farm operator Encavis AG (ETR:ECV) has bought a solar carport in the Dutch province of Flevoland with a total power generating capacity of 37.6 MW.

Installed in an area of 250,000 square metres (2.6 million sq ft), the Biddinghuizen asset is said to be the largest solar carport in the world with around 15,000 parking lots used for events and festivals. The facility is equipped with more than 90,700 bifacial modules that have been generating power since September 2021.

Encavis made the acquisition, whose value was not revealed, through its asset management arm. The solar park is now part of the Encavis Infrastructure Fund II (EIF II), an investment fund for credit institutions, primarily savings and cooperative banks, with a total investment volume of over EUR 1 billion (USD 1.01bn).

"The acquisition of the Biddinghuizen solar park expands EIF II's generation capacity to a total of almost 600 MW," Karsten Mieth, speaker of the board of Encavis Asset Management, said in the press release.

Encavis is an independent power producer in the field of renewable energies in Europe. Its portfolio has a current generation capacity of about 3.4 GW.

The German firm earlier in November invested an undisclosed amount to increase to 80% from 30% its shareholding in Italian solar energy equipment provider Stern Energy SpA.
