Japan's Noshiro offshore wind park reaches commercial operation

Marubeni Corp (TYO:8002) announced today it has brought to commercial operation the 84-MW Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm which is part of a 140-MW complex it has built in Japan.

Noshiro and the 54.6-MW Akita Port Offshore Wind Farm, which is expected to start its commercial operations in due course, represent Japan's first large-scale offshore wind power project.

Marubeni and several partners are working on the JPY-100-billion (USD 758m/EUR 713m) wind complex through a special-purpose company called Akita Offshore Wind Corporation (AOW).

Operation and maintenance of the offshore wind parks will be carried out by AOW for a 20-year period.

Located in the waters of Akita prefecture, the two offshore complex features a total of 33 turbines, an onshore substation, and transmission lines.

Japanese utility Tohoku Electric Power Network Co Inc is the off-taker under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

The AOW consortium also includes Obayashi Corp, Tohoku Electric Power Co Inc, Cosmo Eco Power Co Ltd, The Kansai Electric Power Co Inc, Chubu Electric Power Co Inc, The Akita Bank Ltd, Ohmori Co Ltd, Sawakigumi Corporation; Kyowa Oil Co Ltd, Katokensetsu Co Ltd, Kanpu Co Ltd and Sankyo Co Ltd.
