Renewable project developer The Green Solutions (TGS) is planning to kick off the construction of a 60,000-tonne-per-year green hydrogen production plant in Vietnam at the end of next month.
The project in the country’s Ben Tre province, touted as the first one of its kind in Vietnam, is expected to require an investment of VND 19.5 trillion (USD 837.7m/EUR 778.8m), the government announced last week.
The proposed facility will be installed across 22.7 hectares of public land in the Bao Thuan commune and will deploy German technology. Initially, it is planned to produce 24,000 tonnes of hydrogen and 150,000 tonnes of ammonia per year, as well as 195,000 tonnes of oxygen gas. The second phase will see the capacity increase to 60,000 tonnes of hydrogen and 375,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, plus 490,000 tonnes of oxygen gas.
Trial production at the site is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2024.
The Green Solutions Group will work on the project through its subsidiary TGS Green Hydrogen Co Ltd. Its implementation aligns with the Southeast Asian country's goal to diversify its power mix and cut dependence on coal.
