Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG), announced today that it has sealed a development agreement for a proposed 500-MW offshore wind project off the south-east coast of Vietnam.
The offshore wind outfit found a partner in Vietnamese construction and infrastructure group Fecon to jointly develop the Vung Tau project in the waters of Ba Ria, Vung Tau province.
The fixed-bottom wind farm would be located some 23 kilometres (14.3 miles) to 35 kilometres from the coast. It could be among the first large-scale offshore wind projects in Vietnam, once licensed and approved, Corio said.
“The team in Hanoi has been examining opportunities across the country for many years. We are looking at a number of potential projects and partnerships, demonstrating Corio’s commitment towards offshore wind in Vietnam,” Jonathan Cole, CEO of Corio Generation, said in a statement.
Corio Generation emerged in April this year as GIG’s standalone offshore wind business. Since then, the company announced plans to develop up to 9,000 MW of offshore wind projects with Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board around the world, up to 2,500 MW in Australia and over 5,000 MW in Brazil.
It says its global offshore wind project portfolio is at over 20,000 MW at present.
