The governments of Morocco and Germany have signed a pact that will facilitate the cooperation between the two countries in the development of green hydrogen projects.
The first two projects were outlined in the declaration of intent that was signed last week. One of them is the “Power-to-X” scheme that calls for the production of green hydrogen under a plan proposed by the Moroccan Solar Energy Agency (MASEN).
Citing Badr Drissi from the CEO's office at Morocco's sovereign wealth fund Ithmar Capital, Reuters reported that Morocco and Germany have agreed to build a 100-MW renewable energy plant that will power a green hydrogen manufacturing site in the North African country. He gave an outline of the idea during a webinar by ATA Insights.
The second project will focus on creating a research platform on “Power-to-X” to promote the transfer of knowledge and the building of skills in partnership with the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energy (IRESEN).
Overall, the partnership aims to improve the framework conditions for the production and use of hydrogen, establish the required supply structures and promote research and innovation in the area.
