The Manah Solar I and II parks in Oman’s Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, with a combined capacity of 1 GW, will kick off commercial operations by the closing quarter of 2024, the Muscat Daily reports.
Government agency Oman 2040 Vision Implementation Follow-up Unit was cited as saying last week that the two projects are expected to attract some OMR 300 million (USD 780.2m/EUR 674.9m) in investment. The commissioning of each 500-MW plant was planned to occur in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, respectively, but the timeline was extended due to the global economic turmoil triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP), which will be the power off-taker of the independent power projects (IPP), is due to select two international developers to build, own and operate the plants. Last year, the company issued a Request for Proposals (RfP) that was open for participation by nine developers and consortia, previously selected through a Request for Qualifications (RfQ).
Among the qualified bidders are Masdar, EDF Renewables, Italy’s Eni and Japan’s Marubeni Corp. The parties had a deadline until May 25 to file commercial bids.
