Oman invites legal consultancy offers for 500-MW Ibri III solar project

The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) is seeking a legal adviser for the development of the 500-MW Ibri III solar power plant that is planned to go online in the northwest of the country by the last quarter of 2026.

State-owned OPWP, which is the single off-taker for independent power producers in the country, has issued a request for proposals (RfP) for the provision of legal consultancy services and advice on the competitive tendering of the project.

Interested parties are invited to purchase the documents for participation in the tender by December 22 and submit a proposal by January 26.

The latest RfP represents another step in the preparation for the large-scale project. Earlier this year, OPWP issued two RfPs related to Ibri III -- one for the provision of financial consultancy services and another one seeking a technical consultant for the scheme.

The Ibri III solar farm will be built in the Al Dhahirah Governorate near Oman's first large-scale solar plant, the 500-MW Ibri II IPP, which was inaugurated at the beginning of 2022.

OPWP plans to build several large-scale solar plants along with wind parks across the country by 2027. Under the company's 7-Year Statement for the 2021-2027 period, the northern Ad-Dakhiliyah Governorate should host two solar projects each of up to 500 MW and another 600-MW solar farm could be developed in the Al Wusta region.
