DEAC building solar-powered data center in Latvia

Independent data center operator DEAC said today it is building a large facility in Latvia that will be powered entirely by on-site solar panels.

The new data center, to be known as DEAC Riga, will be a 10-MW site with a capacity of up to 1,000 server racks that will ensure a minimum level of service availability of 99.98%. MY Neste Diesel will provide backup power to the facility.

DEAC, owned by an infrastructure investment fund managed by Quaero Capital, offers IT services to thousands of customers in more than 40 countries.

"Together with the data center operator DLC, DEAC offers two primary locations in Riga and Vilnius and is quickly growing to become the Baltics' most significant and comprehensive data center network," said Sebastien Bourget, managing partner at Quaero Capital.
