The renewable energy arm of Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management Inc (TSE:BAM.A) has sealed a deal to supply wind and solar power from more than 600 MW of capacity for the operations of Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) on three continents.
Under an agreement with Brookfield Renewable, the US e-commerce giant will procure electricity for its business in Europe, North America and India, Brookfield Asset Management said on Thursday.

The contracted power volumes will come from 601.6 MW of wind and solar park projects that are planned to produce around 1,370 GWh annually. The generation, equal to the power consumption of more than 120,000 US homes per year, is earmarked for three Amazon sites in the US, in Arkansas, Illinois, and Mississippi, as well as for projects in Spain, Northern Ireland, Italy, and India.
The renewable off-take arrangement was made along a deal that will see Amazon Web Services (AWS) become the preferred cloud provider to Brookfield Asset Management.
“AWS is helping us modernize our operational systems, giving us the scalability, reliability, and innovation we need to deliver clean energy around the world. In return, Brookfield Renewable will provide renewable power to Amazon on three continents, which will help Amazon stay on path to power its operations with 100% renewable energy,” said Ruth Kent, chief operating officer at Brookfield Renewable.
Amazon aims to power 100% of its operations with renewables by 2025 and become net-zero carbon by 2040.
