New JV to strengthen renewable infrastructure in Middle East

Independent safety science company UL LLC on Thursday unveiled a joint venture with Saudi Arabian GCC Electrical Testing Laboratory (GCC Lab) that will seek to improve the renewable energy infrastructure in the Middle East.

The new entity will be headquartered in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, servicing clients in parts of the Middle East, including Egypt. One of its tasks will be to update the certification requirements. It will be offering pre-commissioning tests, construction monitoring services and product testing of solar modules.

The newly set-up company will promote renewables, energy efficiency, research and sustainability and will also work to support the renewable energy targets of Middle East countries, where a “substantial growth”is expected in the next few years. The JV will contribute towards localising manufacturing and services and promote energy sustainability and competitiveness.

"This partnership combines UL's safety science knowledge, expertise and global resources with the GCC Lab's knowledge of local market needs and goals - laying the groundwork for improvements and updated certifications in the region's renewable energy market,” said GCC Lab’s CEO Saleh Amri.
