Israel to build 41 wind turbines in Golan Heights

Israel's Ministry of Defence has signed a deal with local renewables developer Energix Renewable Energies Ltd (TLV:ENRG) for the installation of up to 41 wind turbines in the northern Golan Heights to ensure the supply of green electricity to tens of thousands of households in the country.

Each of the turbines will be up to 200 meters (218.7 yards) high and will be the largest and most advanced of their kind, the Ministry of Defence said last week.

Supporting green energy projects is a national goal for Israel's defence forces and technological solutions have been developed to allow the turbines to work in conjunction with the Israel Defence Forces, said Director-General Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel.

For Energix, the signing of the contract with the government is a significant milestone towards obtaining a building permit for the project, said the company's chief executive Asa Levinger.

More details about the contract were not revealed.

Founded in 2009, Energix is active in the construction of solar and wind power plants in Israel, Poland and the US with a development portfolio of more than 1 GW and power plants of 258 MWp in commercial operation.
