German solar developer Belectric will build a 16.8-MWp floating photovoltaic (PV) plant in northern Israel for S’energy and water utility Carmel shore waters.
Belectric will break ground on the facility that will be located on a water reservoir near Kibbutz Ma'ayan Tzvi in the first quarter of this year, the German company said on Monday. The plant is expected to go online by the end of 2022.
The facility will consist of more than 30,000 PV modules mounted on a floating platform. Floating marine grade power lines will connect the installation to the mainland while an anchoring and mooring system will hold the platform in place.
The Israeli unit of Belectric together with S'energy will be in charge of the engineering, construction and commissioning work. The German company will provide also operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the plant.
The project represents Belectric's fourth floating PV plant in Israel. A 19.3-MW project is currently under construction and is expected to be put into operation by the end of this year. The solar array is being installed on several water reservoirs for fish farming pools near the Kibbutz Lohamei HaGeta'ot in the north of the country on behalf of French utility EDF (EPA:EDF).
The German company has already implemented 35 solar projects with a total capacity of around 570 MW in the country.
