Sempra switches on 108-MW Phase II of ESJ wind park in Mexico

Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra (NYSE:SRE), has started operation of the 108-MW Phase II of its Energia Sierra Juarez (ESJ) wind farm in Mexico's Baja California state.

With the new expansion, ESJ's total capacity has jumped to 263 MW. The total cost of the Phase II project is estimated at USD 150 million (EUR 131.5m), the company said on Tuesday.

Comprised of 26 wind turbines, Phase II is capable of producing enough power to meet the annual demand of more than 180,000 homes.

Dubbed as the first cross-border renewable energy project between Mexico and the US, ESJ's electricity will be fed into the California electricity market, Sempra said.
