Dutch green hydrogen projects developer Tarafert BV has placed an order with Ohmium International Inc for the supply of 343 MW of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers in three tranches.
Tarafert will use the electrolysers as part of its large-scale urea fertiliser and green ammonia production project in Mexico. Using Ohmium’s interlocking modular units, the facility will be able to produce up to 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year.
Ohmium expects to deliver the first 69 MW in 2025, it said in a statement today.
"Utilizing green hydrogen to produce ammonia is a major advantage for our project. Green hydrogen means our ammonia will no longer be subject to the volatile price spikes and pollution inherent in fossil fuel use," said Jean Perarnaud, CEO of Tarafert.
Ohmium is a US-based PEM electrolysers manufacturer with production activities in India. It raised USD 45 million (EUR 45.5m) in April in a Series B financing round led by existing investor Fenice Investment Group. At the time, the company said it aims to quadruple its annual manufacturing capacity from 500 to 2 GW by the end of 2022.
