Renewables company Eurus Energy America on Friday announced the start of commercial operations of a 50-MW wind farm in the northwestern Mexican state Baja California Sur.
The Coromuel project was executed by Eurus’ Mexican arm Eolica Coromuel S De RL De CV and is the parent company’s first investment within Mexico’s energy sector. According to the statement, the wind farm, built by Spanish group Elecnor SA, is the first one in Baja California Sur.
“The State of Baja California Sur has growing electricity demand. Coromuel project will provide this special region with renewable wind generation and contribute to overall grid stability via its integrated battery energy storage system,” said Hidenori Mitsuoka, president and CEO of Eurus Energy America.
The Coromuel wind farm is coupled with a 10-MW battery energy storage system by Finnish technology group Wartsila which will provide grid stability and ancillary services to the local grid. The output of the plant’s 20 General Electric turbines will be sold on the wholesale power market.
California-based Eurus Energy America directs renewable energy development in North and South America on behalf of Japan’s Eurus Energy Holdings. The company owns more than 600 MW of wind and solar power assets.
