Absolicon to provide solar heat to Mexican brewery

Swedish concentrated solar heating company Absolicon Solar Collector AB on Friday said that it will provide a solar heat installation for a plant in Mexico of Grupo Modelo, which is part of Belgium-based brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev SA (EBR:ABI).

An initial solar collector field of 660 sq m (7,104 sq ft) will be installed at Grupo Modelo's newest and most modern facility, which is situated in the municipality of Apan, Hidalgo.

Absolicon said that Grupo Modelo's facilities in Mexico have a potential for more than 180,000 sq m of solar heat installations, including 15,000 sq m at the Apan site.

Installation of the initial project will start in 2023. After an evaluation period, the parametres of a potential expansion will be determined.

Absolicon’s technology will provide energy for industrial brewing processes under a heat purchase agreement.

The Swedish company will work with its local production line partner CITRUS JMK SA DE CV to execute the project.

“A full extension of the AB InBev project alone would yield an estimated 1.5 years' production of solar collectors with the Absolicon production line. This shows that Absolicon’s business model of working on global projects together with local production partners is delivering results,” said Absolicon chief executive Joakim Bystrom.
