CCE gets building permit for 40-MW solar project in Romania

Austria-based renewables developer CCE has received the final permit for its first solar project in Romania -- the 40-MW Horia photovoltaic (PV) plant which will be built in the northwestern part of the country.

Horia, located in the Arad region, is the first of eight solar plants that CCE is planning to set up in Romania. Construction of the solar park featuring about 75,000 photovoltaic modules will begin in 2023. Once connected to the Romanian grid at the end of 2024, Horia will produce green electricity for almost 17,000 households.

CCE is partnering on the project with FRAPAG and Romania-based Banat Agri Group.

CCE, a joint venture between Austrian photovoltaic specialist Clean Capital Energy and German sector player enernovum, sees the best conditions for the deployment of green energy in Romania which seeks to add 7 GW of renewable capacity by the end of this decade. The company owns project rights with a nominal capacity of 680 MW in the country and eight projects currently under development are expected to be ready for construction by the end of next year.

"Romania is very committed to the expansion of renewable energies and its efforts are well above the European average. A very good grid structure and the will to accelerate the transformation towards green electricity thus make Romania an ideal market for us," said CCE Managing Director for Romania Johannes Srajer.

To support its growth in the Balkan country, CCE opened an office in the capital Bucharest in August.
