Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WSE:PGE) and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED), the joint developers of the 2.5-GW Baltica offshore wind farm in Poland, have selected a contractor for the development’s construction project.
This is a consortium of Ramboll Polska, the Polish arm of Danish consulting and engineering firm Ramboll, and Poland’s Projmors Maritime Construction Design Office. The contractor, chosen as part of a competitive dialogue tender process, will be responsible for preparing design documentation for foundations, turbines, internal cables and offshore power stations. Its remit will also cover obtaining a building permit for the maritime part of the offshore wind project. Work under the contract should be completed by the third quarter of 2023.
The Baltica offshore wind project has two stages - Baltica 3 of up to 1,045.5 MW that is scheduled to go online in 2026 and Baltica 2 of up to 1,498 MW, expected to be commissioned in 2027.
Both phases have location decisions, environmental decisions for the maritime part, transmission network connection agreements and the right to a contract for difference (CfD). The project partners expect this year to secure additional administrative decisions for the onshore part and will also start work on securing a building permit as the last steps before a final investment decision.
Commenting on the selected consortium of a global and local player, Soren Westergaard Jensen, project director in Baltica Offshore Wind Farm on behalf of Ørsted, said: "Strengthening the competences of the Polish industry as part of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project is also a practical implementation of the commitment we have made as a foreign investor by signing the Sector Deal for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland.”
